This page is intended to provide information about the lawsuit recently brought on behalf of people who purchased jewelry, gems and stones from Macy's. The action was filed in Superior Court in San Francisco, California. A copy of the lawsuit and a press release issued at the time of filing by the Brandi Law Firm can be found at the above links. The lawsuit is brought on behalf of a Macy's customer who seeks to represent the interests of all other affected Macy's customers.
If you purchased jewelry, gems or stones from Macy's from January 2005 through the present you may have interest in the Macy's Jewelry Lawsuit, as the suit alleges that Macy's intentionally deceived its customers by misrepresenting the quality of jewelry, gems and stones it sold to customers throughout California and the United States including misrepresenting heavily glass filled and often heavily lead glass treated stones as natural rubies; selling gems from banned countries; selling Praseolite (a heated form of quartz) as "green amethysts"; and passing off black sapphires as "diamonds."
One of Macy's deceptive practices, selling artificially enhanced rubies as natural, received national attention during a story aired on Good Morning America that can be viewed here. View a news feature on CBS5, "Fractured: Macy's Sued For Gemstone Fraud."
